The past summer was a particularly challenging time for UNRWA teachers and students, as an unprecedented funding shortfall in the Agency’s core programming budget had risked a delay in the school year. However, the amount of contributions received from the Ministry of International Cooperation and Development against the deficit of US$ 101 million is US$ 15.0 million was covered part of the teacher’s salaries. The contribution provides the UAE with the opportunity to make a direct contribution to Palestine refugee children’s education. 1.1. General Objective The overall objective of this contribution is to ensure that UNRWA refugee students achieve their full academic potential, overcome the effects of conflict, violence and the overall destructive environment which has been so detrimental to the children’s ability to learn. 1.2. Specific Objective / Outcome UNRWA recognizes that great teachers play key roles in empowering students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the twenty-first century and better connect with people and experiences beyond their borders. Those teachers are being well-trained, dedicated, enthusiastic and interactive; teachers are reshaping the future of our school children. The project’s specific objective aims at ensuring that 2030 UNRWA staff have their own dignity life, and approximately 30,000 Palestine refugee children enrolled at 35 Schools have access to quality primary education for the first semester of 2015-2016 school year. 3.3. Outputs Through this generous contribution from the United Arab Emirates “Ministry of International Cooperation and Development”, has contributed to the improved learning outcomes of approximately 30,000 pupils enrolled in 35 Schools, by providing students with a positive educational environment in which to grow, achieve and thrive. Moreover, the project has helped maintain a source of income for 2030 teachers and administration staff at a time when poverty is pervasive and unemployment stands at an alarming 38.4 percent 2015. | 15,000,000 | Commitment | Incoming | |||
